Melanin Children Matter
Melanin Children Matter’s website had fallen months behind its mission, and a grant deadline was days away.

Melanin Children Matter has an incredible mission and purpose, but their website didn't reflect it. Founder Lakeia Nard had been waiting months for updates that just didn't happen. There was overlapping text and images on desktop and mobile, she had new resources that needed to be visible and events that needed to be updated. She was so overwhelmed with the backlog and worse, she had grant reviewers telling her that her message just wasn't getting across. We connected just weeks before an important deadline for new grants and her funders would be checking her website. Lakeia needed a site that reflected her organization: active, trusted and supportive of all children and families with rare disease diagnoses.
Melanin Children Matter’s website now reflects the organization Lakeia built. The copy is clear and consistent, and it says plainly that every child is welcome. Funders can see MCM’s research partners, programs, and impact numbers within a few scrolls.
The Events page shows a history of community work instead of a single listing. Families can find the resources they need, read testimonials from other parents, and sign up for updates. The site also works on phones, where the layout had been broken.
Most important, the updates were live before letters of intent were due. Lakeia could send funders to her website with confidence.
